Lady Dukes avenge last year’s playoff loss

When Rondout visited Marlboro Wednesday, April 10, the Dukes had a chance to redeem the loss suffered to the Ganders in the sectional quarterfinal last year that ended 2018 season.

And the game last week became a slugfest, and Marlboro came out on top 10-8. Marlboro had 12 hits, an offensive output helped by six walks that kept the Dukes on base throughout the game.

Carly Correa had three hits when she went to the plate three times while knocking in a run. Ella Leduc has a pair of hits and a run knocked in.

“We put the ball in play and forced Rondout to make plays,” said Ray Leduc, Marlboro’s coach. “Offensively we played a sound game. Defensively we did well. There were a few miscues that we are hoping to clean up as the season goes.”

The next day, the Dukes faced Wallkill, and the offense continued to run as the Dukes won 13-8. Emmie Mae Cabrera had a double with a pair of runs knocked in. Bella Gulcalayon had a pair of hits as Wallkill’s defense collapsed with nine errors to help put the Dukes on base.
