Lloyd has become a Democrat town

Posted

The latest enrollment information shows that the Town of Lloyd, which for years has been a Republican town, is now Democrat, with the major reason being that women are fleeing the Republican Party. There are now in Lloyd 1,457 women, who are registered as Democrats and 871, who are registered to be Republican. There are 1,139 women, who are not affiliated with any party, 182 Independent women, and 77 Conservative women.

There are 586 more women, who are Democrats than Republican. Among the men the Republicans have a slight enrollment edge of 53, 1,042 to 989. In Lloyd there are 7,133 registered votes, 3,766 women to 3,367 men.

The female phenomena in Lloyd are nationwide. Morning Joe has predicted that because of women, the Democratic Party is growing and the Republican Party is shrinking, and that Trump will lose if he seeks a second term.

History unfortunately repeats itself
Perhaps 40 years ago, teen Leonard Yusko of New Paltz was coming home on an icy and cold night with snow on the ground, at a pre-climate change time, when winters were really winters, when the car driven by Leonard’s best friend, failed to make a curve on Route 32 South of New Paltz, and crashed into a tree. Leonard was killed.

A year later on the anniversary of Leonard’s death, his friend, rented a room at a New Paltz motel. He had a gun with him. He used it to commit suicide.

Recently there was a similar accident in Orange County, but the driver was drunk and unlike when Leonard died, there are now very tough DWI laws. Leonard’s friend, Leonard, too, may have had a beer or more the night he died. The Orange County driver is going to prison for between one and two/thirds years to five years.

When Leonard died the drinking age was 18. Now it is 21. If New York State had had a drinking age of 21 when Leonard and his friend were late in their teens they both may both be alive today.

Ulster County schools easily outspend
New Jersey is one of the wealthiest states in the United States, and Bergen County is near the top in wealth in New Jersey. The per capita income in Bergen County is $81,203, and in Ulster County, just 45 miles away, it is $48,811.

Only one percent of Ridgewood’s students qualify for a free or reduced priced lunch. Some of the nine school districts in Ulster County have over 40% of their students qualifying for a free or reduced priced lunch. Of Ridgewood’s enrollment 69.4% are white, 16.1% are Asian, 9.6% are Hispanic, 4% are multi-racial and 0.8% are black. Average SAT in Ridgewood is 1320, and 97% of its students graduate from high school.

The following are the per student costs in the Ulster County School districts: Onteora, $38,587; Rondout, $32,107; Ellenville, $29,465; New Paltz, $27,878; Marlboro, $27,571; Kingston, $27,323; Saugerties, $25,106; Wallkill. $24,090; and Highland, $23,617.

In our school districts, the worst day of the year is when the school tax bill arrives. It is a reason why so many of our senior citizens retire to states like Florida and Arizona.

Trump said the Kurds were not in the D-Day Invasion
Donald Trump made the preposterous statement that because the Kurds were not in on the D-Day invasion of World War II it is one of the reasons that he was withdrawing our troops from Syria, where they were protecting our ally, the Kurds.

Many countries were involved in D-Day. The three main nations were the United Kingdom, The United States and Canada. Also there were units fighting for the free French, and Poland also fought as well. There were also contingents from Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Greece, and the Netherlands.

In addition to the above, the Royal Australian Air Force, Royal New Zealand Air Force, and Royal Norwegian Navy provided support. Turkey, which was the Ottoman Empire was not involved in D-Day, nor were any Mediterranean or Middle East Countries. But Turkey, where Trump has a twin towers hotel is being rewarded, as is Saudi Arabia, which is a huge tenant at Trump’s hotel in New York City. Turkey has an ally, where Trump would like to have a hotel: Russia. Is Trump’s foreign policy based on his business deals?

He mocked Christine Blasey Ford. He mocked Greta Thunberg, John McCain, made fun of Gold Star parents. I live in Ulster County. It used to be a Republican County, now women in my county and nationwide are leaving the party. They don’t like a man who gropes a woman and laughs about grabbing their vaginas. Ulster County now has 27,884 women who are registered Democrats and 12,801 women, who are registered Republicans. Those women are telling it like it is, and Trump is not on their list. I dislike him for his racism, putting little Latino kids in cages and turning the Republican Party into the White Party.

I am an infrastructure guy. Trump said he was going to have the biggest infrastructure budget in history. That was almost three years ago and he has never produced an infrastructure budget. Earlier Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi trapped him into an infrastructure budget. Chuck and Nancy were ready to go and within a month Trump had quit the group. But he never stopped playing golf. Watching TV 24/7 is not working. And what he has done to the Kurds is unimaginable. Turkey and Russia are running a pincher movement with their armies against these brave people. These decent people have families. They have children. They are our friends, allies, and when the going gets tough, Trump is running.

Amber Guyger had a gun

Dallas Police officer Amber Guyger had the misfortune to have a gun when she accidentally went into the wrong apartment in her complex. She shot and killed the person who rented the apartment. It was an accident, one that would cost her ten years in prison.

I do not have a gun in my house. One thing I learned at Fort Dix is that with an M15 rifle, the bullet does not always go where you think it will go. I have a fear that if I had a gun, I could have that one in a million Amber Guyger moment. Possibly because I lost my temper or caught someone in my home burglarizing it. I could chase the burglar out of the house, get down on my knees, square up and shoot. And then realize that right behind the burglar was my neighbor’s house. The bullet missed the burglar and went through a glass window of my neighbor’s home, and it hit and killed his teen daughter. I would say it was an accident. One problem is I had not touched a gun in over 50 years. Who cares what your excuse is.

My mother, Adelaide McKinney, almost died before she was 16. Her stepbrother, Charles Houston, had a gun. He was fooling around with it. He aimed it at my mother. She ducked. He did not know it had a bullet in the chamber. My mother never allowed a gun in our house. Charles Houston became a prison warden.

Both my father and my oldest son went hunting once for a deer. My father had a deer in his sight. He put down the gun and never went hunting again. He just could not shoot the deer.

Since Fort Dix I have not touched a gun. But I have eaten great venison at Sal’s Place.

Doctors used to be in the Republican Party
Thirty years ago medical doctors overall were mostly Republicans. In those days 61 percent were Republican and 38 percent Democrat. But times have change. In a recent poll 38 percent were Democrat, 27 percent Republican, and 36 percent Independents. One reason for the change is now 50% of new doctors are women. Locally they include Dr. Nikia Bennett of Highland and Celeste Pizza of Marlboro.

The younger doctors tend to belong to the Democratic Party, and the older ones, the Republican Party. Causing the shift, too, is Obamacare.

Young doctors are more likely to be employees in a group. This is a big change when most doctors were sole practitioners.

Another factor is that the Republicans are trying to rescind Obamacare. Doctors like the ease of getting paid by Medicaid, Medicaid Advantage, Medicare, Obamacare, and private insurance. Medicaid pays for 50 percent of all births in the United States. Doctors today do not have to worry about being paid. They do not want to change that.
