Wendy Rosinski is running for the position of Town Clerk for the first time in her own right, after having been appointed by the Town Board upon the retirement of long-serving clerk, Rosalie Peplow. Though Rosinski is a Democrat, she will appear on the ballot on the Democrat and Republican lines.

“I enjoy public service. It is a way of giving back to my community. From the first month I moved into Highland, I have volunteered and served on many committees [and] serving as Town Clerk seems to be a natural step,” she said. “I was the Confidential Secretary to the Town Supervisor from 2008-2011 where I obtained an immense amount of knowledge about town government; the everyday operations and what it takes for the town to run. I chaired the Town of Lloyd Events committee from 2008-2011. With the help of great volunteers, we produced several events throughout the year on a very minimal budget. I served on the board of the Hudson Valley Rail Trail Association for several years and the Recreation Commission. For two years I served as Deputy Town Clerk to Rosalie Peplow, who’s knowledge and experience cannot be replicated. She taught me so much; although you cannot sum up 34 years of experience into 2 years, I feel she prepared me well for my position as Town Clerk, a position that should not be taken lightly.”

Rosinski said the clerk, as the Records Management Officer, is in charge of most town records. The clerk issues certain licenses and permits, files reports with County and State agencies as required, posts legal notices and is the Land Tax Collector.

“We are the face of the Town Hall. As for our office and its issues, we are working to make it easier for our citizens to do their business in the Town Hall. We will soon be accepting credit cards for Town Clerk transactions and hope to expand that quickly to tax payments and water and sewer payments by next year. We work hard to post important information on the Town website, Channel 22 and posters around Town Hall,” she said.

Rosinski said she is, “committed to being a provider of reliable information and [promises] courteous, competent, and efficient service to its customers. We are dedicated to the careful preservation of the Town’s official records, vital records, and historical documents for the benefit of, not only current, but also for future generations.”
