Local teams impressive at indoor meet

During the first scoring of the indoor track season at West Point, Marlboro did very well Friday in all events, ranging from long distance to field and throwing events.

“Individually, we are doing really well,” said Tom Fassell, Marlboro’s head coach, of the season. “There are a bunch of kids hitting huge PRs.”

For the boys in the Division 4, Marlboro’s Freddie Callo won the weight throw, and Matt Hoffman won the shot put, Amarian Hughes won the long jump and high jump. Hughes was also second in the pole vault, and Armani Banton and DaVante Davis went 1-2 in the high jump.

Banton, Davis and Hughes also ran on Marlboro’s second-place 800-meter relay team.

Marlboro’s Braxxdon Dawson and Highland’s Tim Petty went 1-2 in the 600-meter run, and Dawson won the 1,000-meter run with a time 2:52.73. Dawson was third in the 1,600-meter run.

Marlboro’s Liam Ferguson and Highland’s Petty went 3-4 in the 55-meter dash. Highland’s Ryan Pikul was third in the 3,200-meter run.

For the girls in Division 4, Marlboro’s Kaitlyn Conte and Leah Carvajal went 1-2 in the weight throw, and Conte won the shot put. Marlboro was second in the 800-meter relay, fourth in the 1,600-meter relay, and Highland was fourth the 3,200-meter relay.

Marlboro’s Marie Antonelli and Juliana Frisenda went 1-2 in the 1000-meter run, and Frisenda and Antonelli went 1-2 in the 1,500-meter run. And Highland’s Margaret Petty was third in the long jump

“We have a couple of freshman who are showing up,” said Fassell, “and doing amazing things as well.”
