Louis Anthony LaMarca, 85, of New Paltz, passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2020 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born March 17, 1935 in Bronx, New York, he was the son of the late Benedict and Rose (Possett) LaMarca.
On May 28, 1994 in New Paltz, New York Lou married Phyllis Lecesse. They had over 34 years together before his passing.
Lou proudly served his country in the Navy during the Korean War from1952 to 1956. He earned the National Defense Medal, China Service Medal, United Nations Medal, and the Korean Service Medal.
He was employed by SUNY New Paltz as a Heating Plant Engineer until his retirement in 1995. Lou then worked with his son, Al at his business Absolutely Automotive for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis LaMarca; his children, Desiree “Kim” Hecht of Plattekill, Alexander LaMarca and his wife, Nancy of Highland, NY, MaryAnn Tozzi and her husband, Louis of New Paltz, NY, Phyllis Andre and her husband, Bob of Highland, NY, Laura Olson and her husband, Peter of Highland, NY, Nicole DePuy and her husband, Trevor of Highland, NY, Stacey LaMarca and her partner, Gregory of Newburgh, Anthony LaMarca and his wife, Dawn of Port Ewen, NY, Donna Corby of NJ, Yvonne Schaffer of SC and Maria Gentry of NC; his brother, Leonard LaMarca and his wife, Beth of Dunbarton; his grandchildren, Andrew, Jessica, Angeline, Michael, Gianna, Nicholas, TJ, Nina, Brielle, Christina Jeffrey and many other grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Davis.
Friends may call on Wednesday, September 9 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Copeland-Hammerl Funeral Home, 162 South Putt Corners Road, New Paltz, New York.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Thursday, September 10, at St. Joseph’s Church, 34 South Chestnut Street, New Paltz, with Father John officiating.
The Rite of Committal will follow at the New Paltz Rural Cemetery, 81 Plains Road, New Paltz, New York 12561.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations in Lou’s name be made to the Alzheimer Association, 322 Eighth Avenue, New York, New York 10001 (act.alz.org) or the Hudson Valley Honor Flight (hvhonorflight.com) or Hudson Valley Honor Flight, Attn: Donations, P.O.
