Marlboro and Highland got passing grades

Posted

According to the US News and World Report Marlboro and Highland High Schools have better than passing grades. Out of 1,204 high schools in New York State, Marlboro ranked 377th, and Highland, 442. And of the 17,245 high schools in America, Marlboro ranked 4,564 and Highland, 5,526.

The nationwide results reflect on states that are very pro-education and ones that are not. Near the bottom is the state of Florida. Also at the bottom are all of those anti-abortion states. For them life begins at conception and ends at birth. They do not support couples with young children at all. They call themselves conservatives. Cheap better describes them. The leading state is Massachusetts. New York State is among the leaders. A state’s political affiliation, unfortunately reflects on state rankings.

Within New York State, where the district’s students come from effects a school’s performance. New Paltz ranks 204 in New York State and is a region leader. It is both a college town, and a teacher town as not only do New Paltz teachers live there, but teachers from other school districts.

Districts, which have a high percentage of students, who qualify for a free or reduced priced lunch, indicates that a lot of poor families live in the districts, and students from these families do not do as well in their studies. Newburgh ranks 801st in New York State, yet in terms of its student body, its teachers may rank among the best in the region.

There are high school teachers, who have a powerful effect, and an example would be Anne Casey of Marlboro High School, or Josh Tatum, Steve Masson or Lisa Otis of Highland High School. The principal, who assembles the faculty is very important.

The community support also plays a big role as does the school board.

Raped women accused of lying
In the recent anti-abortion law debates women, who oppose that there would be no exceptions for rape and incest have in hearings on the laws had their honesty questioned when they told the white male senators that they had been raped, gotten pregnant, and had an abortion. The women said it was very difficult for them to speak of that time in their life when they had been raped, and to have their thoughts dismissed as “some women invent rapes to justify seeking an abortion,” and then to have their honesty questioned as if they were lying or exaggerating about being raped while for the first time in their lives talking about this horrible experience.

Annually between 25,000 and 32,000 women in the United States, who have been raped become pregnant.

2019 may be the worst year for tornadoes

It seems like because of Global Warming that 2019 will be the worst year in history for tornadoes in the United States. The record was set in 2011, and the 2019 numbers won’t be complete until December 31.

In the worst year New York State ever had there were 12 tornadoes and none of these matched mid west tornadoes.

The worst tornado states in order and their worst number for a year is as is follows: Tennessee, 72; Kansas, 70; Texas, 66; South Dakota, 66; Alabama, 62; Oklahoma, 58; and Missouri, 53. Because Texas is two and three times the size of other states, its numbers are misleading.

Braxxdon Dawson

Congratulations to Marlboro High School senior Braxxdon Dawson, who took down a 53-year-old school record in the 800 meters during the Loucks Games in White Plains, NY on May 10, with an impressive time of 1:56.58. It broke the record, which was set by Richard Faulk in 1966.

Faulk also holds the boys’ basketball record of 54 points in a game. Marlboro was playing Highland Falls at its old gym at what is now the Marlboro Middle School. Faulk’s coach was Ed Sagarese, who later became the Marlboro Superintendent.

Next year Braxxdon Dawson will be attending SUNY Delhi, where he will be majoring in construction management

CO2 levels reach an all-time high
2018 was weather wise horrible because of Hurricanes Florence and Michael, and 2017 was the worst hurricane year in history because of Harvey, Irma and Marie and now we are learning that with 2018 being the most horrible CO2 year in the known history of the world that this year’s hurricanes may be record breaking as are already the spring floods in the United States. PPM is parts per million.

Because of the cumulative nature of Global Warming it is easy to predict what this planet will face both this and next year, and the outlook is scary.
