Marlboro bowlers sweep Section 9 championships

The Marlboro boys’ and girls’ teams have existed for three years, and they’ve won the Section 9 Division II championship twice.

The Marlboro boys’ team finished with a total score of 5,244 and the girls finished with 4,484 to sweep the Section 9 Division II championships last week at Spins Bowls in Poughkeepsie.

“I think I did pretty well today,” Marlboro’s Patrick Tarsio said. “The team did pretty good, too. We had a little bit of ups and downs, but I think we bowled pretty good as a team.”

Both teams will bowl on March 8 at Strike ‘N Spare Lanes in Poughkeepsie.

“It feels really amazing,” said Carson Palmer. “We had a new coach and really had to build everything up and it felt really amazing.”

The Dukes have actually had three coaches in as many seasons, as John Morrisey took over this season for Joey Redondo, who also coached for a season.

This championship was different as the Iron Dukes bowled competitively at the Section 9 championship meet, unlike two years ago, which they won by virtue of beating the Highland Huskies twice.

“It was a little different because we didn’t have to bowl at sections, and went straight to states,” Tarsio said. “But it definitely feels good to go to states this year.”

Tarsio led the Dukes with a 248 high game to end the day and finished with a 1,228 series. He also rolled a 225 in his second game of the day. Zach Moulds posted two 204 high games and finished with an 1,109. Palmer had a 204 high game and a 1,026 series. Ryan Tarsio rolled a 225 high game and finished with a 1,023 series.

“I think in the first half we bowled really well,” Palmer said. “And then we got a little tired and fatigued. I know the fourth game, coming off lunch, we were a little low, and then we picked it right back up.”

Highland’s Andrew Lamark led his team with a 221 high game and a 1,153 series. He also bowled a 204. Giovanni De La Rosa scored a 145 high game and a 776 series. Maddox Angiolillo had a 145 high game and a 759 series. Peter Arciuolo had a 138 high game and a 644 series.

The Dukes clinched their berth in the state tournament with a 4,484-1,835 win over the Highland Huskies at girls’ tournament on Feb. 12, as they clinched their own Section 9 Division II championship.

Olivia Cherubini had Marlboro’s high game of 213 and finished with a high six-game series of 1,034.

Emily Tarsio had a 194 high game and a 955 series. Steviemarie Amato opened the day with a 181 high game and finished with an 886 series, while Paige Brooks rolled a 162 to start the day on her way to an 880 series. Chloe Decker rolled two 145 high games and finished with a 729.

Miranda Farbaniec rolled a 152 high game for the Huskies and finished with a 471 series. Jessica Rendon bowled 119 high game and a 591 series.

Aaliyah Ghafoor had a high game of 136 on her way to a 573 series.
