Marlboro Dukes fight together

The Marlboro Faculty Association in an effort to raise money for cancer teamed up for their fifth annual kick-off fundraiser at Mary Jane’s Dairy Bar in Middlehope this past week.
Meg Gallo, the owner of Mary Jane’s, as well as her amazing staff, made pinkalicious sundaes for the event. One hundred percent of the proceeds were donated to the cause.
At the event, baked goods, lollipops, Dukes Wear Pink bags, cupholders, HOPE & BELIEVE ornaments, pens, and tattoos were sold. Face painting was also a big hit Wednesday night, as well as a silent auction for a PINK HOPE wreath. By the end of the evening with donations included, a grand total of $2,010.00 was raised. Money from this event will be donated to families in our community going through cancer related illnesses. The MFA’s fundraising efforts will continue to November.
The Marlboro Central School District Dress Down Wear Pink Day will take place on Monday, Oct. 21. A special thank you to the Marlboro Community for their continued generosity and support in coming out to kick off our fundraising efforts, as well as Girl Scout troop leader, Jolene Gaer and her amazing girls, Captain Supply in Marlboro who is organizing our DUKES FIGHT TOGETHER spirit-wear on-line orders, Kathy Keane, Monica Taddeo, Cathy Alfonso, and Barbara Rounds who helped make our event a HUGE success.
As Mattie Stepanek once said, “Unity Is Stength...when there Is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved.”

Linda LaPolla is a well-loved retired educator from the Marlboro Central School District, one of the founders of the 1,000 Book Project, and a longtime volunteer and trustee of the Sarah Hull Hallock Free Library. She was president of the library board for many years, and even for a time, acting director.
