Marlboro gets 1-0 win on Senior Night

On Thursday October 10, Marlboro hosted Saugerties in a game under the lights, for Marlboro’s senior night. The Dukes took away the 1 – 0 victory thanks to sophomore Sam Lofaro scoring his very first varsity goal.

Marlboro’s coach Jim Ventriglia said, “We had a game plan going in, to try to posses the ball to build our attack, play good defense and finish our opportunities and fortunately we were able to do that tonight.”

The game was scoreless until the very end of the first half, and with less than two minutes left, Lofaro put one in the back of the net, with the assist going to Mark Pesano.

“It was a good first experience, my first goal on varsity,” said Lofaro. “We all worked as a team, together. It was a good pass by Mark.”

Lofaro’s goal would be the only goal of the night for either team. “It was a big goal. We were pressing at that point in time, it got through and was a weight off our shoulders,” said Ventriglia.

During halftime all the Marlboro players met near the stands, where some underclassmen read notes to the departing seniors. “I give them the opportunity to take ownership of that. It’s a chance for the underclassmen to honor the seniors in a personal way,” said Ventriglia. “They did a good job.”

“I’m gonna miss all the seniors,” said Lofaro. “It’s been good to be able to play with them.”

This was Marlboro’s final home game of the season. In their final two regular season games, they will travel to Wallkill and S.S. Seward.
