Two Marlboro High School (MHS) students have been honored by Orange-Ulster BOCES by being named Senior Scholar Humanities Award recipients. Seniors Aubrey Ramos and Ashley DeBenedictus were selected for distinguishing themselves in the areas of art and humanities during their High School careers.

Aubrey is being recognized for her achievements in the arts. As the student photographer for MHS, she has creatively captured snapshots of countless school activities such as proms, graduations, assemblies, and sporting events. Her photographs have been a vital component of school yearbooks for the past three years.
Aubrey’s photographs have earned three Gold Keys, five Silver Keys, and several honorable mentions in the prestigious Scholastic Art and Writing Awards competition. After being recognized on the regional level, several of her entries went on to be judged nationally.

Aubrey plans to attend Colorado State University, where she will major in Art Education and minor in Photography.

MHS art teacher Amy Tremblay, who taught Aubrey the past four years, said she admires her student’s kindness, authenticity, and unique sense of style.

“She pushed herself to do her best in every project,” Tremblay said. “She had a great eye for photography and knew how to push her creativity. I am so excited to see where her future takes her and what wonderful things she does.”

Ashley was selected for her musical talents and commitment to academics. She is a member of MHS’s Chamber Choir, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Pit Band, Drama Club, and National Honor Society. She has remained on the Honor Roll all four years of High School, and has participated in countless musical performances including All-County, Area All-State, and NYSSMA solos.

Although Ashley has not decided which college she will be attending this fall, she is planning on majoring in Music Education.

“Ashley’s focus on music from Grades 9 through 12 has not waivered. In fact, it has only become stronger,” said MHS music teacher Dr. Jason Orsen. “Her hard work, attention to detail, participation, and achievement is all proof of her continued and growing focus. I know she will continue her success in college and beyond.”
