High School
Principal Ryan Lawler named senior Zachary Moran as the Marlboro High School Student of the month for January.

“Zach is an incredible student and an incredible leader in our school. He’s always involved in our play productions in our music department, so congratulations,” Lawler said.

Band Teacher Elizabeth Miller said, “Zachary has shown incredible dedication and hard work in the High School Performing Arts Program. He is a member of our highest band Wind Ensemble and is currently treasurer of the Choral Ensembles,” she said. “He runs rehearsals for the entire Chamber Choir, sectionals and will often assist in running rehearsals with the Treble Choir in his free time He will even conduct the band during summer rehearsals, not a small feat for your average student.”

Miller said Zachary uses his “impressive music skills” to lead his classmates and, “On top of it all his peers really love him and respect him immensely and are attentive when he works with them.”

Miller pointed out that last spring Zachary competed at the NYSMA Spring Solo Festival, “and received a perfect score. That performance earned him a place in the incredibly prestigious All State Mixed Choir, in the Zone 9 All State Mixed Chorus and in the UCME High School All County.”

Miller noted that Zachary has preformed in numerous play productions, such as ‘Mama Mia’ and in ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’. She said Zachary “takes each character’s intricacies in stride and rises to each challenge. He is a shining example of the rewards of hard work and dedication and in the performance world these are some of the most valuable skills to have. I hope Zachary realizes the impact he has on the Marlboro School district’s performing arts program. Congratulations.”

Middle School
Principal Debra Clinton introduced Student of the Month Angela Delfini and invited her English Teacher Hayden Carlin to speak about her many accomplishments.

“She is so polished, so hard working, so exceptional...and is a standout student in every way,” Carlin began.

Hayden highlighted what other teachers have said about Angela: Science teacher Erin Nagel said, “Angela’s work ethic is evident in the way she approaches any task in class. She takes the time required to ensure that she understands the material and is able to communicate that understanding in many thoughtful ways.”

Social Studies teacher James Ventriglia described Angela as one of his “most dedicated, hard working, engaged and resilient students. She is always prepared and takes pride in her work and has all the trademarks of an exceptional student; inquisitive, respectful and very intelligent.”

Hayden said Angela’s writing ability, “is well developed, insightful and beautifully constructed. She responds well to feedback and suggestions and her abilities continue to grow because of her willingness to improve….You’ve got unbelievable potential Angela. Keep striving to be the best that you can and we all look forward to seeing what greatness you’re capable of. Congratulations.”

Elementary School
Third Grade Teacher Nicole Crociata introduced Luca Gaetano as January Student of the Month. She has taught Luca for two years.

“Since the first day of second grade Luca has come in with a smile on his face, ready to start his day,” she said. “Luca is a responsible student who is always eager to learn and he never shies away from a challenge. He is a hard worker and consistently puts forth his best effort. When something sparks his interest, he is passionate and steadfast on learning more about it and then he teaches me all about it...Luca is a kind friend who demonstrates care for his classmates and is always willing to lend a helping hand. He is an absolute pleasure to have in class and encompasses what is means to be a dedicated ‘Duke,’ and for that we celebrate him as January Student of the Month.”

Spelling Bee Winners
Robin Hecht, Asst. Supt. for Curriculum & Instruction, honored Joshua Ramos as one of the school’s Spelling Bee winners. Student winner Lily Prevost was unable to attend the school board meeting.

Hecht reminded the board that last year Ramos was the winner at the elementary school. He will be competing on February 7, “virtually at the next level and hopefully he will be representing us nationally in Maryland in May. We’re really looking forward to that.”

To help him prepare Hecht handed Ramos a packet of cards containing 4,000 champion words to study, urging him to “get to work.”

The School Board awarded him a certificate to honor him as one of the Spelling Bee winners.
