On April 10, 2019 the 6th grade class from Marlboro Middle School attended Orange-Ulster Boces annual “Y2 Kids Career Fair.” The event was sponsored by the BOCES Career and Technical Education Center. Students had the opportunity to speak with local career specialists, as well as participate in hands-on activitites and explore different careers. Students received literature and samples from over fifty different vendors. The Hudson Valley Renegades, Orange County District Attorney, FBI, ShopRite, NAMI, K104, Orange Regional Medical Center, the Military, BOCES, and JetBlue were some of the programs represented as well as landscaping, child care, culinary arts and health care vendors. The event took place at Stewart Air Force Base and students had the opportunity to explore military planes and helicopters.

Collin Benninger, a sixth grade student felt, “It was a great expeience. I really liked going on the miltary planes and learning about people’s different jobs.” Molly Broderick was happy to say, “It was cool to see all the different jobs. I am interested in education so I got a lot of information from the BOCES education department.” Ian Donahue was excited to share, “My favorite part was the military vehicles. I enjoyed seeing them first hand and speaking with the military representatives.” Rhea Recai said, “It was a nice experience, I enjoyed learning more about mental illnesses. They had some really important information.”

Students left the event with a wealth of information about potential careers they may want to continue exploring.
