For years a succession of Marlborough Town Boards have grappled with what to do about the TOMVAC building. Recently, Councilmen Scott Corcoran, Alan Koenig and Ed Molinelli voted to sell the building for $380,000, while Supervisor Al Lanzetta and Howard Baker voted to keep it.
Soon after the board vote to sell the building, several residents gathered enough signatures to force a public vote on the sale. On Tuesday residents voted 609 not to sell vs. 276 to sell it. Supervisor Al Lanzetta said, “The voters of Marlborough have spoken loud and clear that they want to keep TOMVAC. It’s been ignored and let’s be good stewards and put it back into good shape.” Lanzetta said the first step is to meet with the Town Board to see how they want to move forward with the building. “It’s a board decision, so I honor the board and we’ll talk this over at the next meeting and see where they want to go,” he said. Lanzetta said he hopes the three Councilmen who voted to sell the building, “will see what the people of Marlborough have voted on.” Lanzetta said the outcome of the election surprised him, thinking it would instead be a close vote. “I’m just ecstatic,” he said.
