Meet Me in Marlborough awards annual scholarship

Posted

Each year Meet Me in Marlborough awards a scholarship to a worthy graduate who has supported our agricultural heritage by working on a farm or participating in farm promotional activities.  This year, there are five recipients of this scholarship jointly sponsored by MMiM and Prospect Hill Orchards.  We would like to honor Ethan Gattuso, Leah Heimink, Emily Echler, Gianna Gucciardo and Ellie Keating.
Congratulations to each of these students who have become “family” to us!
The goal of the Market is to preserve the Hudson Valley’s “rich agricultural heritage and traditions.” The Market is held on Saturdays in the summer to fall.
Buying local will help keep the Hudson Valley green with farms and bring sustainability to our local businesses and community organizations.
For the Market to provide local produce and product we MUST first secure a safe environment. HHVFM utmost importance this year is safety to our customers and vendors. Please read the following Covid-19 Market Rules: wear a mask, following social distancing rules (keep six feet apart), follow signs, allow the vendor to serve you (if stated) and form lines for purchasing, if directed. Gloves are optional.

New to the market this year are Hudson Valley Sausage Co. and Rosie’s Bakery.
Hudson Valley Sausage Co. - The Elia Family prides itself on quality products, and personable service. They offer only products that are made in our own USDA processing facility. Featuring, artisan style caricature, dry aged beef, fresh pork smoked and cured meats. Also, house made salami, wursts and sausages will be participating in the market.
Rosie’s Bakery - Is a wholesale and retail family bakery selling cookies, brownies, muffins, croissants, Danish, apple turnovers, breads, pies, cupcakes, cakes and so much more! We are all about everyone eating dessert, specializing in vegan and gluten-free desserts.

From the Marlboro Free Library
Summertime means a chance to explore new books and e-books, learn new skills, and check out resources, programs and activities through Summer Reading at your Ulster County Libraries. This year your libraries will be offering a selection of exciting online and virtual programming – special events, reading challenges, fun activities, and more – throughout the summer months from June 27 through August 31.  All ages – children, teens, and adults – can participate.

The virtual nature of this year’s program has given Ulster County Libraries the opportunity to pool programming skills and to partner with other agencies. Mohonk Preserve, Woodland Playhouse, the Ashokan Center, Opus40 and DRAW Kingston have generously contributed their skills towards activities for children.  We have obtained licensing for Page-turners Adventures and Science Tellers.  Families can view these shows for several weeks online after they premier:
June 27 - Science tellers - “Dragons: Return of the Ice Sorceress”
July 13 - Page-turners - “Imagine Your Adventure Story”
July 25 - Science tellers - “Aliens: Escape from Earth”
August 10 - Page-turners - “Imagine Your Underwater Story”

School News
Members of the Marlboro High School Class of 2020 took a memorable drive through their hometown on June 16, as part of a special motorcade that took place in their honor. The seniors lined up in their cars at Marlboro Elementary School, where they were surprised to see many of their earliest teachers.
Then, upon exiting the parking lot and turning left onto Route 9W, the students were greeted by several of their former Marlboro Middle School teachers, who had lined the street to wave goodbye. Finally, after a quick drive through the Marlboro business district, it was on to the High School, where the soon-to-be graduates were greeted by faculty and staff members who had shown up to cheer, wave, and shout their goodbyes and/or well-wishes.

“Adopt A Senior” Program

Faculty and staff members from the Marlboro Central School District visited graduating seniors on June 12 as part of this year’s “Adopt a Senior” program. The students received gift baskets along with plenty of well-wishes for their futures. Go Dukes!
