Michael R. Anzivina, 79, a dual resident of both Highland, New York and New York City, passed away from a brief illness on March 3, 2021, at Mid-Hudson Medical Center.

Michael was born on April 7, 1941 in Poughkeepsie, NY to the late Michael and Frances (Passanando) Anzivina. Michael graduated from Highland High School, then went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University and a Juris Doctor from NYU. Following graduation, Michael served in the Foreign Service in Mogadishu, Somalia for two years.  His career path transitioned to the United Nations in South Africa, eventually returning to their headquarters in NYC. He traveled to various locations throughout the world as an attorney for the UN Development Programme. 

Michael had an affinity for learning languages as he was considered a polyglot. He was a member of the Syracuse Alumni Board, NYU Casa Italiana Club, Turtle Bay Association of NYC, and an active parishioner at St. Augustine’s Church. Michael enjoyed personal travel, the outdoors including gardening and walking on the Hudson Valley Rail Trail. He was often seen around town wearing his trademark beret and enjoying a glass of wine at local establishments.

Michael is survived by his sister, Loretta (Anzivina) Miller and her husband Edward of Highland, NY; his niece & nephews, Michael Miller (Debbie) of Warrenton, VA; Francine Miller (Rob Borrero) of Marlboro, NY; Steve Miller (Megan) of Allentown, NJ; and his great nieces & nephew, Lauren, Katie, Kelly, and Ryan Miller.

A celebration of his life and burial will be held at a later date.
