Please join us in welcoming Anishbell Brennan as the new assistant principal of Marlboro High School! Brennan comes to Marlboro from the Poughkeepsie City School District, where she served as an assistant principal at Poughkeepsie Middle School. Prior to that, she worked as a teaching assistant, paraprofessional, and bilingual special education teacher leader in the Bronx. Brennan is excited to begin her next chapter in Marlboro, where she looks forward to doing everything she can to support students and the entire school community.

Mark your calendars! Marlboro Middle School’s Open House will take place on Tuesday, September 26, at 6 p.m. Parents/guardians will meet their student’s teachers as they follow a shortened schedule that evening.

Marlboro’s Fan Cloth shop is open! Please consider supporting our High School students by purchasing Marlboro Dukes attire and/or accessories. All students in Grades 9-12 will benefit from this fundraiser.

Attention, Marlboro community! The Fall 2023 Adult Education brochure is available now. We encourage everyone to take advantage of these exciting course offers. The fourth annual Ulster County Food Fight has begun at local libraries, including the Sarah Hull Hallock Free Library (Milton) and Marlboro Free Library! This food collection contest is held this year in cooperation with all of the libraries throughout Ulster County -- from Friday, September 1 to Saturday, October 21. The common goal is to “spread food all over Ulster County” by filling up the shelves of local food pantries and ending hunger in our communities. The “Food Fight” is part of the Great Give Back on October 21, happening throughout the state through the efforts of New York libraries. Bring your nonperishable, unexpired food items to your local library, and contribute to feeding our neighbors.

The Sarah Hull Hallock Free Library invites the public to explore the energetic spirit of klezmer music with Klezmer Berl’s Hotsie Totsie Orkester - at the Milton Train Station, on Sunday, October 1, at 3 p.m. The Hotsie Totsies keep the klezmer tradition alive by learning and sharing music with roots in Eastern European Jewish village life. They meet weekly, enjoying equally camaraderie, breaking of bread and immersing themselves and others in the often joyous, and sometimes plaintive, sounds of klezmer music. It can be hard to remain seated once they get started! The free concert is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. Call the Milton Library at 845-795-2200 to reserve your seats.

Weekly Recipe
Creamy Crockpot Mac and Cheese
This creamy crockpot mac and cheese starts with uncooked macaroni. Just throw the milk, cheese, and seasonings in the slow cooker for a meal everyone will love!

Ingredients
1 pound elbow pasta uncooked (regular, NOT gluten free, NOT quick cook pasta) We use Barilla brand.
2 1/2 cups milk whole is best.
12 ounces evaporated milk
12 ounces Extra sharp cheddar 3 cups shredded (from the deli, shred yourself, don’t buy bagged)
4 ounces American cheese (or Monterrey) 1 cup shredded (from the deli, not processed slices)
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Dash of cayenne pepper to taste.
1/4 cup butter cubed.

Instructions
Spray a 6-quart slow cooker with non-stick spray.
Rinse the uncooked pasta well in cold water and drain.

Add uncooked pasta to crockpot along with milk, cheeses, salt, pepper, mustard, garlic, and cayenne pepper. Stir to combine, making sure macaroni is submerged in liquid as much as possible.

Dot with cubed butter.

Cover and cook on low heat for 1 hour. Remove lid and stir. Depending on your slow cooker, your dish could be done at this point or require UP TO 1-2 more hours.

If not done, continue cooking and checking periodically (every half hour or so).

When done, pasta will be tender, and liquid will be thick and creamy. The sauce will thicken even more after the lid is removed and mac and cheese sits.

Notes
IMPORTANT - please do not use the bagged shredded cheese. It contains an anti-caking agent that can make your mac and cheese gritty. Get the cheese from the deli and shred it yourself.

PASTA - please use sturdy pasta, not the really thin noodles. Thin noodles will cook much faster and turn into mush. We use Barilla brand elbow noodles.

Also, every slow cooker is different. Newer slow cookers should work fine for this recipe. Cook on low for one hour without disturbing. Remove lid and stir well. Replace the lid and check every 15 minutes after that. DO NOT turn the heat up! You will make your macaroni mushy. My slow cooker is only a couple years old, and my mac and cheese is done after about 1 hour and 45 minutes.
