Milton, native Taylor Ann Bozydaj’s letter to Doris Buffet is featured in the newly-released book, Letters to Doris: One Woman’s Quest to Help Those With Nowhere Else to Turn. The book features 24 past grant recipients and the impact the Letters Foundation has had on them.

Bozydaj wrote and submitted her letter to the Letters Foundation, a charitable organization based in Boston, in early 2017. In the letter, Bozydaj asked for the opportunity for her and her mother to attend the Race to Erase MS Gala in Los Angeles so her mom could go back to one of her favorite places - California. Taylor Bozydaj’s mother Karen suffers from Multiple Sclerosis.

“I am currently a student at MCPHS in Boston, studying to be a neurologic pharmacist so I can work directly with Multiple Sclerosis patients,” said Bozydaj. She added, “I was thrilled and honored to have been selected for a grant by The Letters Foundation which made it possible for my mom and me to attend the gala which raises awareness about MS. My whole life is dedicated to finding a cure for this disease”.

The Letters Foundation received 3,000 letters in 2017 alone, and over the years, has given almost $6 million to individuals in need of a helping hand during a hard time in their life.

Copies of the book may be found on Amazon.

Bozydaj is a fourth-year student at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Boston, Mass. She and her family are from Milton. Bozydaj has been captain of team “Peace Love Cure” for the past eight years at the annual “Walk MS” sponsored by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and held at the Culinary Institute of America each May. She has raised over $25,000 in the past 8 years for The National MS Society.

The Letters Foundation is a foundation of last resort that provides humanitarian grants to people experiencing a crisis when no other options exist. These one-time grants provide a hand-up to individuals as they work to stabilize their lives. Established by siblings Warren and Doris Buffett, the Letters Foundation reads and replies to letters from individuals living within the United States. We aim to honor the dignity of every person who writes to us and collaborate with grantees to assist in overcoming the barriers currently preventing them from moving forward in their lives. Doris’ lifelong commitment to individuals, and her kind but practical approach to problem solving inform all of our areas of grant making.

Race to Erase MS is dedicated to the treatment and ultimate cure of Multiple Sclerosis. Funding research is the core focus of the Foundation and all funds raised support our Center Without Walls program, a selected network of the nation’s top MS research centers. This nationwide collaboration of physicians and scientists are on the cutting-edge of innovative research programs, working as a team on therapeutic approaches to eradicate MS. In addition to combating MS through research in a clinical environment, Letters Foundation hopes to increase awareness by educating the public about this mystifying disease.
