New management team coming to Stewart

With Norwegian airlines gone the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has negotiated a new professional team to manage and promote New York Stewart International Airport, according to minutes of the Port Authority of a recent agency meeting in New York city.

Called Future Stewart Partners this team is made up of AvPorts that now maintains and operates Stewart and the Paris, France Groupe ADP which manages several major Paris airports, including Charles DeGaulle and Orly and many others. ADP manages more than a million airport customers, its website says.

With the recent departure of popular but financially distressed Norwegian Air, airport and county officials are regrouping to find another international airline to keep Stewart International Airport’s constantly upbeat momentum going.

Norwegian’s success at Stewart Airport for two years was marked by consistently full passenger loads to Ireland and for a time Scotland .

But early on airline aviation experts blogged that Norwegian was overextending its abilities to fund its rapid expansion, a prediction of financial problems Norwegian later explained had also to do with the grounding of the airline’s Boeing 737 Max aircraft following safety concerns after crashes caused by mechanical problems with the Max.

Norwegian’s two year run at Stewart is reason to believe the airport will find a new carrier for overseas travelers, said members of the Stewart Airport Commission members at a commission meeting at the airport Tuesday.

Meanwhile Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus lauded the airport’s new marketing plan that includes the Hudson valley, New York York City and international travelers.

“We have much to attract travelers, such as Legoland,” said Neuhaus.
