One more Book Barn this season

The Friends of the Marlboro Free Library Book Barn will be open once more this season, during which time they will hold their End of Season Sale, where books will be $5 a bag (bag provided by the Friends).
Located next to the Library’s north parking lot, it is open every first Saturday of the month May through October from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (weather permitting). Quality hardcover books and DVDs donated to the Library are available for reduced sale.
The Friends of the Marlboro Free Library are volunteers who raise funds for the Library.

Bounty Festival
Meet Me in Marlborough presents the annual Heart of the Hudson Valley Bounty Festival on Saturday, October 5, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at Cluett Shantz Memorial Park, Route 9W, Milton.

The annual fall festival features a local Farmers Market (Local Harvest): organic and traditionally grown produce, brewery, artisan cheese and breads, baked goods and specialty farm items, plus samplings from local restaurants, crafts and vendors, live music, demonstrations and more.


Therapy Dogs visit Marlboro Free Library
Did you know therapy dogs are non-judgmental listeners that can help an emerging reader relax and read confidently? School age children (grades k-5) are welcome to drop in on Saturday October 5 between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. to read to therapy dogs, Sebastian and Fletcher, from Hudson Valley Paws for a Cause! Registration is not required, but RSVP online is preferred. RSVP online at marlborolibrary.org.

Children’s Fall Story Time and after school program
Registration for Fall story times and after school programs opens on October 7 at 10 a.m. Programs run for nine weeks from the week of October 22 through December 19. Check the online calendar at marlborolibrary.org to view the full program line up and register.

Yard sale reminder
On Saturday, October 12, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Christ Episcopal Church, 426 Post Road, Marlboro, will host its annual Autumn Yard Sale, featuring vintage items, holiday items, crafts baked goods, pumpkins and mums, along with a kids craft corner.

Spaces are available. Bring your own table, chairs, and tents. $20 per space, Non-refundable. First Come first Served Call 914-400-5926.

Meet local author Jen Place
The Sarah Hull Hallock Free Library Book Lovers Club presents local author Jen Place, on Wednesday, October 2, at 6 p.m.
Everyone is welcome to join the book club discussion of Building 51, at this very special gathering. A book signing and reception will follow. Building 51 may be purchased at the library for $10 prior to or during the event.
Don’t have time to read the book before Jen’s appearance? Come anyway!

GED/High School Equivalency Tuesdays & Thursdays, 5-8 p.m., Marlboro High School Media Center. Free. This course is intended to prepare students to pass the GED/High School Equivalency exam. Participants will learn in a welcoming, relaxed, and supportive environment. Must be 18 years or older. Please bring a notebook, folder, pencils, pens, and highlighters(Need eight) students for class to run)
Learn to Speak English Wednesdays, 5-8 p.m. Marlboro High School Media Center. Free. Learn to converse in English. Instruction will be in speaking, reading and writing English (includes citizenship education). Must be 18 years or older. Please bring a notebook and pencils.
Knitting & Crocheting, Tuesdays, October 15 – December 17, 7-9 p.m. Marlboro High School Media Center $60 Whatever your skill level, you’ll love this class! Bring knitting and/or crocheting needles and whatever yarn you like to class.
Yoga for Everybody, Wednesdays, October 16—December 11, 6:30-7:30 p.m., Marlboro Intermediate Cafeteria 3-5, $35 This class will guide you through body opening poses, loosening tension and relieving stress while strengthening. Beginners to advanced students welcomed! We will be moving at a slower pace and holding stretches longer to develop an awareness of self. Leave relaxed, content, and ready to take on life! Please bring a yoga mat.
DSLR Camera, Wednesdays, October 23 – November 13, 6-7:30 p.m., Marlboro High School Media Center Lab $35. You’ve spent the money, now let’s get your money’s worth! Learn the features and tools available on the DSLR and get away from the green “auto” setting. You’ll be using your camera like a pro!

Navagating the iPad, Mondays, October 21 – November 4, 6-7:30 p.m., $25, Marlboro High School Media Center Lab At the conclusion of this course, you will understand iPad hardware and all of its settings, and be able to connect with the outside world via the internet, social media, etc. Learn how to sync with iTunes to load applications, music, and video with or without the use of a PC. Understand ‘Cloud’ shortcuts, and applications such as video editing.

Alzheimer’s Detection and Prevention Talks at Milton Library
Joan Carl, of the Hudson Valley Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, offers two presentations that draw on the latest research on treating and preventing memory loss. The first of these: Know the 10 Signs: Early Detection Matters will take place on Friday, October 4, 3:30 to 5p.m.
Both presentations are part of the Sarah Hull Hallock Free Library’s “Tea, Talks & Workshops” series. Come for the information; stay for the conversation. Tea/coffee and goodies served. Register by calling the Milton Library (845-795-2200).
