Outdoor worship to begin July 12 at Marlboro Church

Posted

First Presbyterian Church of Marlboro has decided to offer outdoor worship experiences on the lawn (weather permitting) beginning on July 12.  More details will follow, but the general idea is that worshippers will bring lawn chairs and blankets and gather in designated areas that will be marked 10 feet apart.

Additionally, a parking area will be arranged for any who wish to remain in their cars for a drive-in approach.  Service begins at 11:00 a.m.

Learn to read music
Do you want to read music but never were taught how to decipher the strange lines, notes and symbols?   Learn to read music this summer with a music reading class..
First Presbyterian Church of Marlboro is hosting the course, but it is a community-wide, on-line class, open to persons from ages 5 to 105.  Invite your friends to enjoy this special opportunity. Music Reading will be taught by Sara Figueroa-Lobdell, church Music Director.
A native of Clintondale, Sara received a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance from the University of Hartford — The Hartt School.  Sara will teach six, 30-minute online lessons, utilizing Zoom technology.
Each half-hour class will have Sara provide the basics of reading music using examples, demonstrations, questions and answers. Participants will gain confidence reading musical scores: the staff, bass and treble clefs; note values, stems, flags, rests; time signatures, and rhythms; beats per minute, bars; sharps, flats, naturals, key signatures and scales.  Classes will be arranged based on age and acumen.
Music Reading is offered on Monday evenings, July 6,13,20,27 and August 3,10.  Registration forms may be filled out online or by calling 845-236-4130.  Additional information is available by email or phone.  All registration forms are due no later than July 3.
The Music Reading class is free!  The course is provided by the First Presbyterian Church of Marlboro through a grant from the Hudson River Presbytery.  We hope you will sign up and join in the fun of Music Reading!

In July, First Presbyterian Church of Highland will begin a summer study series on Tuesday evenings, at 7 p.m., via ZOOM.   Our discussion will be shaped by the framework of the book Race in a Post-Obama America: The Church Responds, edited by David Maxwell.
You may purchase the book in advance, but feel free to join the conversation even if you are not reading the book.  Contact the church through email at FPCHighland@verizon.net or call the office: (845) 236-4130.  All are invited to participate.

School News
Marlboro High School normally hosts an annual Senior Scholarship Night the evening before graduation. Due to this year’s health regulations, the school decided to create a virtual recognition which can be viewed on the Marlboro High School Facebook page.
We would like to thank the local businesses and civic organizations that generously contributed to these scholarships.
The entire Marlboro community has come together to embrace the Class of 2020, and we appreciate the support. This year’s graduates make up a remarkable class. Although they have had a non-traditional end to their time at Marlboro High School, they are very accomplished students!

Marlboro Middle School’s Ultimate Discount Card Fundraiser will be kicking off on June 30. Discount cards will be sold from the High School main office or, if necessary, they can be mailed once payment is received. Please email Dawn.Schreiber@marlboroschools.org or call 236-5840 ahead of time to arrange pick up.
