Plattekill Library welcomes new director

Posted

On October 11, the Plattekill Public Library welcomed Darren Lanspery as the new library director.

Over the last 18 years, Lanspery has worked in the school library system, holding positions at Orange/Ulster BOCES, Dutchess BOCES and SUNY New Paltz.

Lanspery moved to Plattekill five years ago, where his family has strong roots. His grandparents, Theodore and Gladys Pedersen, have lived in the town of Plattekill since the 1930’s. As Lanspery ventures into the public library system, he will focus on ways the library can better serve the community of Plattekill.

With the sale of the Plattekill Public Library building and property, Lanspery, and the Plattekill Library Board are starting the planning phase for the construction of a new library building. While the library staff make the most of the space available, a larger library would allow for expanded programs, an increase in the library collection, greater accessibility, and more space for community meetings and events.

The Plattekill Public Library offers programs and events for all age groups. Moving forward, Lanspery plans on complimenting the current lineup of library programs with new programs, such as yoga classes and computer and technology workshops. Lanspery also hopes to increase the electronic services offered by the library, including access to more ebooks and online resources. More electronic services will help the library reach those patrons who cannot easily travel to the library building.
