Plattekill Town Board announces master plan kick-off meeting

Posted

Right on schedule, the Plattekill Town Board is moving forward with their master plan preparations by holding the first meeting of the Master Plan Committee. This kick-off event will take place on April 16, 2019 at 7 p.m. in the Plattekill Town Hall. The committee hopes that community members, interested in shaping the future of Plattekill, will stop by to share their insights on the project. Currently, the Master Plan Committee will meet the 3rd Tuesday of each month. For those residents that are unable to attend these meetings, a Facebook page will be set-up with updated information on the Master Plan process.

The Town Board Supports D.A.R.E.
Board members were invited to a special event at Leptondale Elementary. Organizers of the DARE graduation ceremony sent a letter to the Town Board inviting them to attend the festivities. Members of the Board discussed the merits of this program, and to show their support, a representative of the Plattekill Town Board will be present at the event. Congratulations to all the graduates.

Giving Back to the Seniors of Plattekill
Each year, the Town of Plattekill provides its senior citizens the chance to take a free day trip. Coordinating with local senior groups, the Town of Plattekill rents luxury buses that provide transportation for four scheduled senior day trips. Historically, the town has contracted with Adirondack Trailways to provide the four 50 person buses for each trip. After reviewing bids from three transportation companies, the Town Board is honored to continue this tradition by contracting with Adirondack Trailways for another year. Senior bus trip information will be available soon.

The board expressed concerns over the amount of money budgeted each year to use towards the senior day trip transportation. Each year, the Town Board continuously finds the senior transportation line of the town budget in the red, despite yearly budget increases. While the price of transportation and the trip distance does increase the yearly cost, all members of the Board agree that it is not fiscally responsible for the Town of Plattekill to continuously go over the senior transportation budget. To address this issue, Councilman Farrelly plans to discuss this issue with the senior trip organizers. After some debate, a motion was passed to approve the use of Adirondack Trailways for the planned Plattekill senior trips in 2019, with the stipulation that the Town Board work with the local senior groups to keep the cost of future trips within budget.

The next Plattekill Town Board Meeting will be held on March 20, at 7 p.m. at the Plattekill Town Hall.
