Plattekill Town Board honors Eagle Scouts

During the September 18 Plattekill Town Board meeting, the Boy Scouts of Troop 195 presented a special gift to the people of Plattekill. Dustin Columbo, patrol leader, presented the Town Board with a plaque, engraved with the names of all BSA scouts who have completed their Eagle Scout projects in the Town of Plattekill. To date, 26 scouts have completed projects in Plattekill. The completion of a community focused project is one of the steps to becoming an Eagle Scout, the highest honor bestowed upon a Boy Scout. The Town Board was deeply moved by the gift, and will display the plaque in the Plattekill Town Hall. Each year, the name of those scouts who complete their Eagle Scout Projects in Plattekill will be added to the plaque.

Patrick Leonard, a Boy Scout with Troop 70, informed the Town Board about the progress of his Eagle Scout project, currently under construction at Thomas Felton Park. Leonard is working with town officials to install a fitness area, but has decided to use stone dust for the ground cover instead of mulch.

The Board agreed that stone dust would be easier to maintain and approved the change. Mr. Leonard hopes he will be able to report the completion of his Eagle Scout project at an upcoming Town Board meeting.

Gateway Meeting Report on Proposed Skilled Nursing Facility
Supervisor Joseph Croce reported back to his fellow Board members regarding a Gateway meeting to discuss proposed construction at the Moran Rest Home on Route 32 in Modena. This project, presented by the One 70 Group and Edge + Co Architecture LLC at the Plattekill Town Planning Board on July 10 purposes the construction of a 240 bed, 23,0000 square foot skilled nursing and rehabilitation center.

The new health center would be built in response to a deficit of long term care beds in Ulster County, and the need for upgraded facilities for residents currently residing at a long term care facility in New Paltz. The Gateway meeting was called to discuss the projects plans for waste management, traffic studies, and water management.

Information regarding the environmental impact of the project is also needed. Supervisor Croce stated that he feels this project would benefit the Town of Plattekill. The new facility would both provide housing for seniors and bring additional jobs to the community. The project is currently waiting for the New York State Department of Health to issue a Certificate of Need (CON) to move forward.

The next meeting of the Plattekill Town Board will be held on October 2 at 7 p.m. at the Plattekill Town Hall.
