Plattekill welcomes the Holiday Season at annual tree lighting

Posted

Holiday cheer filled the chilly winter air Saturday night as the Town of Plattekill celebrated the beginning of the holiday season by lighting the holiday tree. This annual event takes place at Thomas Felten Park.

Families, bundled up against the chill, started the festivities with hot chocolate and tasty treats, courtesy of the Southern Ulster Rotary. A large bonfire, monitored by members of the Modena Fire Department, provided a warmth for parents as children, who were unaffected by the below zero temperatures, raced through the snow, eagerly awaiting the lighting of the tree and the arrival of the guest of honor, Santa Claus.

Supervisor Joseph Croce had the honor of lighting the holiday tree. After the lighting, Croce joined members of the community in a holiday sing along. With the holiday tree leading his way, Santa Claus arrived. Santa happily chatted, posed for pictures, and reviewed the christmas lists of the children of Plattekill.

If you were unable to visit with Santa on Saturday, don’t worry. According to the Plattekill Fire Department’s Facebook page, Santa will be visiting the Plattekill Fire District on December 21 starting at 9 am.
