On Wednesday, July 10, at approximately 11:47 a.m. the Town of Marlborough Police Department was dispatched to a report of a rollover motor vehicle accident involving a fuel truck in the area of 1650 Route 9W in Milton. Reports indicated that the operator of the fuel truck was possibly entrapped, and that there was an active fuel leak.

The first officers arriving on scene extricated the truck driver with the assistance of the Town of Marlboro Highway Dept. It was subsequently determined that the operator had sustained minor injuries and he was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Police reported observing a substantial amount of fuel leaking from the tank portion of the truck. Town of Marlborough Highway Dept. personnel immediately moved to contain the fuel by placing large mounds of sand around the leak. Their quick action resulted in the fuel being contained to a small portion of the roadway, and further preventing contamination of an adjacent waterway. It was reported that the truck was loaded with approximately 2,400 gallons of fuel oil prior to the accident. However, it has not yet been determined the amount of fuel that leaked from the truck.

This accident is currently under investigation , as it is not yet clear as to what caused the operator of the truck to lose control prior to it overturning.

The Town of Marlborough Police officers were assisted at the scene by members of the New York State Police, Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, Ulster Co. Dept. of Emergency Services, Orange Co Department of Emergency Services, Milton Fire Dept., Marlboro Fire Dept., Middlehope Fire Dept., Highland Fire Dept., New Paltz Fire Dept., Esopus Fire Dept., Modena Fire Dept, Cronomer Valley Fire Dept., NY Air National Guard (Stewart Airport) Fire Dept., City of Newburgh Fire Dept., Ulster Hose Fire Dept., Roosevelt Fire Dept., New Hamburg Fire Dept., Mobile Life Support Services, NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation , as well as Central Hudson.
