Sixth grade students visit the planetarium

On March 1, 2, and 6, 2023, sixth grade students from Mrs. Connors’, Mr. Trapani’s, Mrs. Garitta’s, Mr. Downer’s and Mrs. Cerchia’s Science classes at the Marlboro Middle School had the pleasure of learning about the solar system from Mr. DeMarco at the Marlboro High School Planetarium.

The sixth grade curriculum covers such topics as the seasons, moon phases, comets, asteroids and meteors.  Mr. DeMarco’s presentation gave the students a first-hand look at these concepts.  They had looks of amazement on their faces when they saw what it would be like to walk on the planet Mars. They eagerly shouted out answers to questions and couldn’t wait to learn and see more.

Nikil Gowda, a sixth grade student said, “It was fascinating seeing all the asteroids in our solar system and seeing all the details of our moons, planets and galaxies.”

“It was amazing to explore everything our galaxy has to offer. I had the best time and learned so much. I haven’t gone on a field trip in forever and finally I had the opportunity, thanks to Mrs. Connors,” proclaimed Kaylee Keane, another sixth grade student.
The field trips ended with questions from students, and Mr. DeMarco showed students how to use the planetarium’s technology system.  It was a fun and interactive way for Marlboro Middle School students to learn about space.
