Suicide Awareness organizers say ‘thanks’

Posted

The organizers of the Suicide Prevention Community Night held on Friday, September 27, would like to offer a thank you to everyone for the support of this important event. Additionally, they would like to say a special thank you to Colleen Creighton of American Assoc. of Suicidology, Ellen Pendegar of Mental Health Of America of Ulster County, Dr. Michael Paff of the Highland High School, Jerry Wimberly of 22 Until None and Angela Amoia of American Assoc. of Suicide Prevention who were panelists at the event and The First United Methodists Church of Highland for sponsoring and hosting such an important event.
It was a success as we opened up the conversation about Suicide and prevention, made connections between members of the community and Mental Health professionals, and came together to learn how we can make our community stronger in the fight against Suicide. Please message me to be added to our contact list for future events including Gate Keeper trainings, the creation of support groups and more.

Highland Youth Football Meets Highland Varsity Football

On Friday, September 27, the Highland Youth Football league prepared for practice as part of their normal Friday night routine. However, this time, instead of their practice gear, all three team divisions put on their game uniforms.
They headed over to Highland High School for the annual Homecoming Game. A brief practice was held on the side of the main field, but, during the game, players and coaches sat on the sidelines watching the Varsity game to support the players.
Once half time arrived, the crowd cheered for the Varsity cheerleaders and then the they cheered on the Youth Players! Team by team, one at a time the Youth Football players were announced by name and number as the ran to meet their coaches out in the field. Once all of the teams were announced, each team ran some type of drill and/or plays to show the crowd their talents. One day these players just may be playing in a varsity game, afterall!
