Summer reading program comes to an end

Posted

The 2020 Summer Reading Program, “Imagine Your Story,” is now complete at the Sarah Hull Hallock Free Library .  And Bingo! -- Rachel Mackey won the Milton Library’s raffle in the Adult Summer Reading category.  Rachel received a generous gift certificate to Frida’s Bakery and Cafe.  Meraki Cohen was the winner of the Children’s Summer Reading raffle, and along with two runners-up, has been awarded a gift card from Lego.com.
Rachel and Meraki were two of the readers who linked to the Ulster County Library Association Summer Reading Program through the Milton Library’s website.  The creative Summer Reading Bingo Game offered reading and other challenges, which when completed earned participants digital raffle tickets to be drawn at their home library.
The Sarah Hull Hallock Free Library was one of the many Ulster County libraries participating in an on-line version of the Summer Reading Program hosted by the Ulster County Library Association (UCLA).  In 2020, this special virtual format replaced the Milton Library’s traditional line-up of in-person events and treasure chest prizes, so that the Milton Library among other Ulster County libraries could continue to offer summer reading fun safely.  Patrons interested in Fall 2020 on-line programming at the Milton Library should keep an eye out for new postings on the library’s web site and social media.
The Sarah Hull Hallock Free Library on Main Street in Milton now offers take-home to keep- home activity kits.  The Bag of Library Fun for September has the theme “Take Flight.”  Each kit contains an easy craft (with supplies to keep), as well as ideas for games and STEAM activities.  The Milton Library staff has put together reading lists for children, junior readers, young adults and adults -- from the library’s own shelves.  On enclosed bookmarks, patrons find serious and tongue-in-cheek book and film suggestions on topics like Flying Transportation, Birds, Dragons/Flying Dinosaurs, Heroes That Fly, and Wind, Clouds and Rain.  The library staff will put aside a kit for anyone interested (as long as supplies last) for pick-up.  Patrons can reserve a Bag of Library Fun from the Milton Library, by calling (845-795-2200) or e-mailing (miltonlibrary@live.com).
