This November the Republican candidates for Town Council and for the Highway Department Superintendent are running unopposed in Marlborough.

Scott Corcoran has been endorsed by his party and by the Conservative party and will be on Lines B and C for Town Council.

“I believe that everyone should give back to their community in some way. For me, I really enjoy being on the Town Board,” he said.

Corcoran expects that many projects will be completed in the next few years that will, “not only improve our Town economically, but also have us gain usable community space, improved recreation, increased infrastructure, better sidewalks, improved parks, new playground and improved cellular capability.”

Corcoran said in the last 8 years he has served on the Budget committee, the Labor Negotiation committee, the Building committee, the IT technology committee, the Justice and Court Department committee and the Park and Recreation committee. In addition, he has overseen numerous town projects: the renovation of the New Town Hall and the Water Dept offices, the construction of a new Highway Department garage and a Bocce court pavilion and oversaw the renovation of the Park pavilion’s kitchen and bathrooms. He worked with the School District in construction of a new shared fueling station and co-chaired the TOMVAC renovation committee.

Corcoran has a college Business degree and is currently a lead technician for Global Foundries (previously IBM) in East Fishkill NY.

Corcoran promises to keep the town budget under the 2% tax cap and will continue to work toward a zero tax levy increase. He said he will make sure that Marlborough gets their fare share in sales tax revenue and that tax cap reimbursement checks continue to come back to the residents.

Corcoran promises to update the town building codes and, “will work with our existing local business on possible ways to help them expand, renovate or beautify their establishments. I would help look for new ways to expand on our local agri-tourism businesses in our town.”

Corcoran said he will work to make sure that Marlborough gets a seat at the table in negotiating the new PILOT tax agreement with the Orange County Industrial Development Agency for the newly proposed Danskammer Power Plant.

“I look forward to working with my fellow Board members in helping shape the Town for a better future,” he said.

Ed Molinelli is running for re-election to the Town Board. He is a Republican and also has the endorsement of the Conservative Party.

Molinelli said he is seeking another term, “to continue what I had started 12 years ago, to keep taxes down and have this town prosper.” He said he brings honesty, integrity and experience to the position.

Molinelli said if re-elected he will continue adding to the overlay district on Rte. 9W, keep taxes under the 2% tax cap and support the expansion of the sewer infrastructure on Rte. 9W.

Molinelli concluded by saying, “I started this journey to help this town keep taxes down, grow business and will continue this journey in my next four years.”

John Alonge Sr. is a life-long resident of Marlborough, graduated from the high school and has been married to his wife, Roseanne, for 40 years. They have thee children, Krystal, Jenna and John Jr. He is running for the position of Highway Superintendent. He is a Republican and also has the Conservative endorsement and will appear on Row B and Row C on the November ballot.

“I have been employed at the Town of Marlborough Highway Department for the last 24 years and I have been the Deputy Highway Superintendent for the last 12 years. I feel that I am more then qualified to hold the position of Highway Superintendent. I would like to continue the excellent service that the residents have come to expect and follow in the footsteps of my father Carmelo “Mel” Alonge, who was Highway Superintendent for 10 years prior to Mr. Appler.”

Alonge said he is prepared to assume the position of Highway Superintendent.
“My 24 years of experience at estimating, maintenance of all types of equipment, building roads, drainage work and site development work will stand me in good stead to accomplish the duties of the office,” he said.
