Town of Plattekill gets ready for the fall

The Town of Plattekill is saying goodbye to Summer, and hello to Fall. The fall season is always a busy time for Plattekill. Coming up in September, the annual Plattekill Day and Vetern’s Car Show will take place on September 21 at Thomas Felton Park. In addition to family friendly booths and events, the Lakeside Licks Cruisers have organized a car show. Enteries are $15 per car with trophies awarded by local business sponsors.

Plans are underway for the Plattekill Elementary School indoor sports series, starting in November. Soccer, along with other indoor sports, will be offered. More information regarding sign ups and offerings will be available in the upcoming months.

Town Hall renovations coming to an end
Renovations are coming to a close at the Plattekill Town Hall. Residents visiting the Town Hall can now enter the Plattekill Planning and Zoning office, the permit office, and the Buildings and Grounds office without having to walk through the Plattekill Town Courtroom.

Employees at the Plattekill Town Hall will see some equipment upgrades this coming month. Barbara Dawes, Plattekill Town Clerk, will be ordering a new postage machine, which will cost the town government less per month than the discontinued model currently in use.

After many years of dutiful service, the Town Hall time clock, used by town hall employees for many, many years, will be replaced. The current time clock, which is starting to show its age, is unable to process timecards for biweekly paychecks, forcing employees to use two time cards. Replacement of the time clock prompted a long discussion by the Town Board. In the end, a motion was passed to purchase a new time clock at a cost of $252.49.

U.R.G.E.N.T contract renewed by Town Board
The Plattekill Police Department will remain a member of the Ulster Regional Gang Enforcement Narcotics Team (U.R.G.E.N.T).

The Plattekill Town Board adopted a motion to sign a three-year contract with U.R.G.E.N.T. Historically, contracts with U.R.G.E.N.T were for a one year period. U.R.G.E.N.T is a multi-organizational team made up of police, state and federal groups, that investigates drug and gang activity in Ulster County. Supervisor Joseph Croce stated he found membership in U.R.G.E.N.T beneficial to the Town of Plattekill because it keeps large amounts of drugs out of the town.

The Town of Plattekill’s relationship with U.R.G.E.N.T is also financially beneficial, as participating agencies receive a percentage of seized assets. Currently, U.R.G.E.N.T is comprised of the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office, Ulster County Probation, and local police departments such as the town of Plattekill, the village of Ellenville, and the town of Shandanken. U.R.G.E.N.T. is assisted by the United States Department of Homeland Security investigations.

The next meeting of the Plattekill Town board will take place on September 4 at 7 p.m. at the Plattekill Town Hall.
