Turkey Trot a virtual race this year

Posted

Rather than our traditional Thanksgiving Day run, organizers of the annual New Paltz Turkey Trot, hosted by Family of Woodstock, will move forward with a virtual run to be completed during the month of November instead. Runners from anywhere can participate this year using the RaceJoy app. Participants can choose their own route or continue to run the route we would normally use. The usual route will be downloaded on the app. Shirts will be offered and available for pickup at Family of New Paltz to anyone participating locally.

For the past 17 years, the Turkey Trot 5K fundraiser has provided us with financial assistance, which has enabled us to successfully operate our program. The funds raised through this event have been utilized for the food pantry, case management services, domestic violence services and adolescent services, including restorative justice services and pretty much “any problem under the sun.”

Participants can register at newpaltzturkeytrot.com. You will also need to download the RaceJoy app when you are ready to run the race. One feature on the app is that you will be able to obtain your own sponsors for the race. You can set this up through the RaceJoy app and collect donations for Family of New Paltz.

Runners are urged to follow the appropriate safety guidelines and not run in large goups, or accompany anyone who has recently tested positive for COVID-19.
