Wallkill’s commencement Friday featured many student speakers including Bright Boafo, who served as the president of the student government association, and he imparted some words to his fellow graduates about their place and destination as they move forward with their lives.

“We define the very essence of diversity because we are the future,” he said. “The future will certainly not be easy.”

Friday’s ceremony was conducted on the football field, and Wallkill said good-bye to 208 graduates as the warm evening sun continued to fade beyond the distant Shawangunk ridgeline.

Kevin Castle, superintendent of the Wallkill Central School District, saluted the graduates for their fortitude in reaching Friday’s pivotal point in their lives.
“You have made it to this point because of the right choices you have made,” said Castle, during his address early in the ceremony.

Amanda Whitehouse, the valedictorian, thanked her teachers, guidance counselors and parents for helping to prepare her for the next step in her life.

“I would not be here without you,” she said.

Kevin Zwacki, president of the National Honor Society, urged his classmates to enjoy life and seek out new challenges after making it to their final meeting together Friday.
“We have worked our tails off to get to this point,” he said.
