It’s time once again for the Hudson Valley Rail Trail’s Annual WinterFest. The event will be held on Saturday, February 8, from 11 a.m to 2 p.m. at the Hudson Valley Rail Trail Depot at 101 New Paltz Road in Highland.

Now in it’s 22rd year, the WinterFest continues to provide wonderful entertainment for the entire family. Eighteen plus regional restaurants bring their best batches of chili to compete for the coveted “Best of Fest” People’s Choice Award. The chili entries vary widely from mild to spicy. There’s a great taste for everyone.

Children love WinterFest with its free activities and games designed with them in mind. The main attraction will be Home Depot’s craft projects in a heated tent under the supervision of Home Depot employees. All the materials and tools needed for the activity are donated by Home Depot of Poughkeepsie. In addition, there are several games designed for children’s participation. There will be Karaoke for all the singers in the crowd.

There will also be a wagon drawn hayride along the trail, marshmallows for toasting, and roasted chestnuts for all to enjoy. And hot dogs, s’mores, hot chocolate, and more will be available for purchase.

Admission is $2. with children six and under free. Taste one chili for fifty cents, or taste them all for $8. A taste them all purchase allows one vote for the chili of your choice. If you sign up for membership at the WinterFest you will receive 10 free tasting tickets.
