Wintry weather doesn’t stop the Plattekill Town Board

It was a small turnout at a slushy Town of Plattekill Town Board meeting. The inclimate weather, and unforeseen circumstances resulted in the cancellation of the K-9 demonstration originally scheduled for February 20. According to Supervisor Joe Croce, the event will be rescheduled for a future Town Board meeting.

Early voting this November
This November, as a result of changes in voting regulations, an early voting period for the upcoming general election has been created. Three polling locations in Ulster County will be up and running for nine days prior to Election Day, with the hope of making voting more accessible to the public. With the hopes of having one of the three polling areas in the town of Plattekill, the Town Board agreed to initiate a conversation with the board of elections. Hosting one of the early polling sites would give the citizens of Plattekill, and it’s neighbors, a convenient voting location. The three early voting sites will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Facebook and the Town Master Plan
The town of Plattekill’s Master Plan committee is gearing up for their first meeting. Noting the success of other towns in engaging the community, the Town Board discussed allowing the Master Plan committee to create a Master Plan Facebook page. Currently, there are multiple Facebook pages associated with Plattekill, including pages for the veterans committee and the recreation department. It was suggested that links to the multiple Facebook pages be posted on the town website for the convenience of its citizens. The Board will investigate the legality of using Facebook to post public information for future reference.

Town of Plattekill Recreation Department
The Town of Plattekill Recreation Department is ready for the warmer weather. Plans are currently underway for this year’s Easter Egg Hunt. The Easter Bunny will be busy hiding eggs at Thomas Felton Park for the April 13, 2019 event. In case of rain, the hunt will be held on April 20.

Any parent interested in their child attending Plattekill Town Camp can pick up an application form at the recreation office. For more information, please contact the Town of Plattekill Recreation Department.

The Professional Musicians of Orange County will yet again be providing the musical entertainment for this years Town of Plattekill Memorial Day Parade. A motion was passed by the Town Board to hire the band for a price of $950.

To avoid conflicts with neighboring festivities, the Town of Plattekill will celebrate America’s independence on July 13. A rain date has been set for July 14.
