Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) announced his community project selections. Adding essential community project funding to difficult, must-pass spending bills will help put an end to Washington gridlock and expand options for landmark legislation in the wake of COVID-19.

Maloney’s project priorities call on Congress to allocate nearly $14 million to clean water projects in the district, including nearly $12 million to the City of Middletown and $1.8 million for PFAS mitigation in Lewisboro. He has requested over $21 million for transportation and infrastructure community development projects, including $5.75 million for Newburgh alone.

In all, the Congressman has requested 11 projects totaling over $43 million for Orange County, 3 projects totaling over $4 million for Dutchess, 4 projects totaling nearly $14 million for Putnam, and 2 projects for Westchester totaling over $2 million dollars.

“I’ve hosted 177 town halls since coming to Congress and had hundreds of meetings with local officials – from both sides of the aisle – so I’ve heard loud and clear what the needs are in our communities. Community Project Funding will allow me to use my first-hand understanding of the needs of our neighbors to help the people who sent us to Washington,” said Maloney. “This new, improved process will allow Congress to do what we were elected to do and utilize our knowledge and experience to thoughtfully direct federal funds to the projects and communities who need it most with transparency and accountability.”

Funded projects include :

• $4 million for a replacement Newburgh Landing Pier. It would provide for a floating dock for the Newburgh-Beacon Ferry transfer passengers, transient mooring slips to allow recreational boaters to dock and visit Newburgh, a larger fixed pier, and an area with shaded seating and space for outdoor events. This will improve mobility for commuters, enhance travel and tourism, and provide numerous opportunities for local communities.

•$1.75 million to replace the Lake Street Bridge in the City of Newburgh. The project will complete a multi-year commitment of city and state funds for the Lake St. Bridge project, a critical commercial thoroughfare in Newburgh that is a part of New York State’s key surface transportation network.

• $3 million for Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital’s Newburgh campus. The project would replace the hospital’s CT scanner and purchase a Linear Accelerator. By prioritizing these two pieces of equipment, the hospital could increase local cancer treatment options, provide patients contemporary radiation oncology treatment, decrease the number of treatment sessions, and prevent patients and their families from having to travel while facing a cancer diagnosis.

• $12.8 million for the North Interceptor Sewer Project in Newburgh. This project would fund the reconstruction and realignment of the North Interceptor Sewer and the repaving of roadways along the project’s corridor. This project would provide economic benefits, with CSO and capacity improvements, decreased sewer maintenance costs, and increased access for underserved areas. The project would decrease combined sewer overflows to the Hudson River Estuary, providing environmental benefits as well.

“This is a massive investment, and we’re thankful for Congressman Maloney’s advocacy on behalf of us here in Orange County,” said Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus. “Each project is critical to our ability to progress into the future. They will enable us to revitalize and modernize our communities, while ensuring the improved safety of our residents.”
