Teaching artists from the nonprofit artist’s cooperative the Wallkill River School are inviting the public to live demonstrations as part of their group exhibit titled “Artists who Teach.”

Free artist demonstrations will be offered to the public on February 15th from 1-5pm and will cover a wide range of drawing/painting approaches. Additionally, longtime WRS artist/teacher Nicole Asendorf, will be displaying a solo exhibit of abstract works titled “Textural Visions in Color.”

The Wallkill River School’s annual teachers exhibit offers a rare glimpse into the creative process used by Wallkill River School instructors, while showcasing the diversity of the classes that are offered through the school. These artists will be giving you a taste of what they teach by demonstrating their craft, utilizing art techniques that are unique to their style of professional work and instruction.

The school provides instruction in a wide range of art making techniques, such as traditional realism in oil, impressionism in pastel, romantic landscapes in acrylic, classical drawing, scratch board painting, anime/comic illustration, and much more.

The artists will be demonstrating their craft from 1- 5 p.m. on February 15, so If you’re curious about the creative process, considering an art class, or just want to meet the artists in your community, Than this is the perfect opportunity to check out WRS!

In addition to the teacher’s exhibit, there will be a solo exhibit titled “Textural Visions in Color” by Nicole Asendorf. Nicole is an artist and visual arts teacher living in the Hudson Valley. She received her degree in education and painting/drawing from the State University of New Paltz. Nicole’s main focus has always been the use of color and texture in abstract works of art but she has recently become inspired by the natural beauty of the landscape. Nicole views the landscape as the perfect transition of subject matter to continue the exploration of color and texture that has always been a driving force of inspiration in her work. This collection of works are a stunning exploration of color and texture in an almost Rothko-esque style of abstract painting, featuring large spaces of color broken up with textural elements.

“I have seen the Wallkill River School take many budding artists from a beginner level of skill, to an advanced level of skill where they are now exhibiting their work and teaching their own classes! I started here as a student, and through the mentorship and education that I’ve received here, I can now confidently make a living as an artist and teacher, something I never thought would be possible when I started,” said Gallery Director/Instructor Liam Vogel. “ Whether you are looking for a new hobby to fill your time, a new technique for your artistic repertoire, or looking to truly develop a professional level of artistic skill, the Wallkill River School is the best place to make it happen!”
