Altercation leaves Montgomery man dead, two wounded

On July 12 at approximately 2:35 a.m., Port Jervis City Police responded to Bon Secours Community Hospital for a report of three patients in the emergency department with stab wounds. Police initiated an investigation, which revealed that a disturbance had occurred prior to the report on Jersey Avenue near the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue. Two groups of people engaged in an altercation, resulting in three persons being stabbed.

Destin Rabess, 18, of Montgomery, suffered stab wound(s) and was pronounced deceased by the attending physician. A 17-year-old male, of Walden, suffered stab wound(s) and was transported to Westchester Medical Center, where he remains in critical but stable condition. A 16-year-old male, of Walden, suffered stab wound(s), was treated at Bon Secours Community Hospital and was released.
Port Jervis City Police are conducting this investigation in conjunction with the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Major Crimes Unit, and Forensic Identification Unit, along with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office and the Hudson Valley Crime Analysis Center.

At this time, there are no arrests related to this incident. Numerous persons were involved in this incident, and police have conducted multiple interviews. The investigation is ongoing as police continue to conduct additional interviews, gather information and collect evidence.
