Cahill announces 2021 Summer Reading and Exercise Challenge

Posted

As we approach the end of an historic school year it is once again time for the Summer Reading and Exercise Challenge. Sponsored by Assemblymember Kevin A. Cahill (D – Ulster, Dutchess) and in conjunction with area libraries, this program encourages children of all ages to occupy their mind and body away from school.
“The Summer Reading Program is the most anticipated event hosted by my office each year. Readers, parents and community organizations are eager to come together and celebrate a season of imagination and learning. In the coming week my staff will be traveling to our local schools and libraries to distribute brochures to students and their families. While reading and exercising, our office will also be curating a unique collection of goodies contributed by local businesses and organizations for awardees to keep after attending our in-person ceremony,” said Cahill.
“Being a part of the Assemblyman’s program is really awesome. It’s like being part of a book club to discuss what we read to all our friends and family,” said Patti Munoz, whose children La’Myah, Destiny and Jrue have participated for six years.
The theme for the 2021 program is “Tails and Tales,” encouraging readers to learn about wild animals and their habitats. Those who read for 30 minutes and exercise for 15 minutes for 40 days during the months of July and August will be invited to attend a ceremony in the fall recognizing their achievement and receive a certificate from the New York State Assembly, a new book selected through Kingston Children’s Library along with donations from local businesses and vouchers for area attractions.
Summer Reading Calendars can be downloaded at the Assembylmember’s website, or you can call the office of Assemblymember Cahill at 845-338-9610 should a printer not be available to you.
