Cornerstone holds mobile testing event

In the past few weeks, Cornerstone Family Healthcare has held two mobile novel coronavirus [COVID-19] testing events.

Altogether both events tested a total of 162 people. 129 people tested for plasma-antibodies, and 33 people did diagnostic testing for COVID-19.

At last Tuesday’s full day testing van event, Cornerstone changed up logistics in order to test more patients. At its first testing van event, two Fridays ago, the event was only a half day and offered only one van. On Tuesday, Cornerstone offered two vans and an additional provider.

“Our health center has been part of the community since the early 1970s,” said Linda Mueller, Cornerstone Family Healthcare President. “We’re very concerned that our minority communities aren’t aware they can come in for care.”

At both events, there were limited walkup tests done. Most of the tests were done by appointment.

“It’s safe to go and get a test,” said Mueller. “Whether you suspect you might be positive with COVID-19 or you want to see if you were exposed to it.” Those who have been confirmed recovered from COVID-19 can be tested for plasma-antibodies.

Staffing had been the most difficult aspect of arranging the testing van events. Mueller explained that staff had to be taken out of their main office for the pop up events.

“Trying to manage other sites can be somewhat complicated,” said Mueller. Although Cornerstone is focusing on testing, it is still seeing other patients.

“Everybody should know that they can get a test done at any time,” said Mueller. One can call 845-563-8000 to arrange a test. In addition, drive through testing has been available at 147 Lake Street since April.

“Our community needs to know that we are here for them,” said Mueller. “We are here, we’ve always been here for them. We will continue to be here for them. Whether it’s in a mobile health van or at 147 Lake Street or any of our other sites.”
