County to build new transfer station at Orr Avenue site

Posted

The Orange County Newburgh Transfer Station #2 will be closed on or around Thursday, November 7 in preparation of reconstruction. A new modernized facility will be built in its place.

The Newburgh Transfer Station is located at 9 Orr Avenue. The project will take approximately one year and will involve closing the solid waste receiving portion of the facility. As an alternative, Newburgh Transfer Station customers may utilize Orange County Transfer Station #1, located at 21 Training Center Lane in New Hampton.

While the commercial and municipal side of the Newburgh Transfer Station will be closed, residents will still be able to utilize the Citizens Drop-off Area to bring single stream recycling, paper, tires, electronics, scrap metal and municipal solid waste. That portion of the facility will remain open during the project. Personnel at the site will assist with any questions and will provide direction for any changed traffic patterns.

“Orange County is committed to improving the efficiency and quality of the services we provide to County residents, and the new, modernized Newburgh Transfer Station will be a great benefit,” said DPW Commissioner Erik Denega. “Replacing this facility will reduce environmental impacts and improve customer service. We appreciate the patience of residents during this exciting project.”
