Longtime Town of Plattekill Republican Councilman Dean DePew Sr. will become the new Supervisor in 2024 after defeating Democrat businessman Michael Lembo on Tuesday.

DePew, who also had the Conservative Party endorsement, outpolled Lembo 1,104 to 806, according to unofficial results from the Ulster County Board of Elections.

DePew will replace one-term Supervisor Jennifer Salemo, who chose not to run for re-election. The term for the supervisor’s position is for two years.

DePew is currently serving the second year of a four-year term on the town board. The board will have to appoint a replacement to serve for one year in 2024.

DePew was first appointed to the board in 2013 to fill a vacancy. He won four elections to retain his seat including one in November 2019 when he was forced to resign due to stipulations in his state retirement from the New York Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.

Incumbent Wilfrido Castillo Jr. and newcomer Joe Hoppenstedt, who were both on the Republican and Conservative lines, won four-year terms on the town board.

Board member William Kras chose not to run for re-election for one of the three seats up for grabs on the five-member board.

Castillo (1,119) and Hoppenstedt (1,107) easily outpolled Democrat/Working Parties nominee Mike Jurkovic (709) and Democrat Marisa McClinton (694) in the race for two four-year terms. McClinton and Jurkovic suspended their campaigns in the summer.

Incumbent Republican/Conservative James Fazio, who was unopposed, got 1,306 votes in the other board race. Fazio, who was appointed to the board on May 17 to fill the seat left vacant by former board member Darryl Matthews, will now serve out the remaining two years of the term which will expire at the end of 2025.

Kevin Roberts, who represents Plattekill in District 12 as a Republican and Conservative, won re-election to the Ulster County Legislature with 937 votes. He was unopposed. Roberts has served eight two-year terms in office.

Democrat/Working Families nominee Debra Clinton easily outpolled Republican/Conservative Pastor Phil Johnson 1,697 to 975 to win election to the new District 16, which encompasses all of Gardiner and a part of the Town of Plattekill.

Longtime legislator Tracey Bartels, who represents the current district that includes all of Gardiner and part of the Town of Shawangunk, chose not to run for re-election.

Republican/Conservative Sarah Nelson drew no opposition for the Town Clerk/Tax Collector’s job and won election with 1,367 votes. She is currently the deputy to Donna Hedrick, who chose not to run for re-election for another four-year term.

Democrat/Conservative Town Justice Annamaria Maciocia won another four-year term with 1,354 votes. She was unopposed.
