Destinta theatre doomed?

NYC Excavation Group, based out of the Bronx, has submitted a demolition application on December 4 on behalf of the owner of the former Destinta Theater, New Windsor Destinta Plaza LLC. A site plan within town records notes that the proposed demolition would occur to the theater site that is adjacent to the Squire Village Apartments Complex.

The theater was reported to have closed in 2019 and came under the ownership of Phoenix Theatres. The theater reopened but eventually closed again and has remained vacant. It is unknown at this time what will come next. Property located in the rear on the site was noted as the former theater for the area prior to the concentration of Destinta as it was known.

The multi-screen movie theatre was originally an A&P grocery store. The original theatre at the complex – the long-shuttered Squire Cinema - lies at the opposite end of the shopping center complex.

The local staple in the Town of New Windsor has had trucks and vehicles parked outside its entrance area. Dumpsters with materials cleared out from the interior are also seen from the road.
