Drop off new, unwrapped gifts at the library

Posted

The Marlboro Free Library is pleased to once again serve as a drop-off point for the Mental Health Association in Ulster County’s Presents for Participants Program (formerly Presents for Patients).

Donations will be distributed to individuals who are currently living in a MHA residence or involved in one of MHA’s community-based programs.

For many it will be the only gift they receive this year.  Please donate a new, unwrapped gift to the Library from November 16 until December 9.

Gift suggestions include “something to wear” (large and extra-large items preferred) and “something to do” (greeting cards, envelopes, postage stamps, games, puzzles, playing cards, model kits, books, soaps and deodorants). Candy, packaged cookies and chewing gum are also acceptable. Please, no used items. Gifts should be unwrapped so the Mental Health Association staff can address individual patient needs.  Glass containers should be well packaged to insure against breakage.

Donations can be dropped off during the library’s curbside or in-library hours. Please visit marlborolibrary.org for updates.

 School Events/Information

The Marlboro Central School District Board of Education will be holding a regular business meeting on Thursday, November 19, at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Marlboro High School auditorium, located at 50 Cross Road in Marlboro. In following State regulations, attendance will be capped at 50 people. Masks and social distancing will be required. Those not in attendance will be welcome to view the meeting on the Marlboro CSD YouTube page. A link will be posted on our website, www.marlboroschools.org. A recording of this meeting will be available on YouTube for future access.
The COVID-19 pandemic may have prevented Marlboro Middle School from hosting its annual Veterans Day Breakfast this year, but that didn’t stop a group of National Junior Honor Society members from getting together last week to make cards for local veterans. Special thanks to Ms. Santilli and Mr. Colandrea for facilitating this wonderful project!

Several of our fully remote students created cards as well. Thank you!

Weekly Recipe

Simple Thanksgiving Stuffing
 VICTORIA GRANOF

Ingredients
8–10 servings

INGREDIENTS

¾ cup (1½ sticks) unsalted butter plus more for baking dish
1 pound good-quality day-old white bread, torn into 1” pieces (about 10 cups)
2½ cups chopped yellow onions
1½ cups ¼” slices celery
½ cup chopped flat-leaf parsley
2 tablespoons chopped fresh sage
1 tablespoon chopped fresh rosemary
1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme
2 teaspoons kosher salt
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
2½ cups low-sodium chicken broth or vegetable broth, divided
2 large eggs

PREPARATION

Preheat oven to 250°F. Butter a 13x9x2” baking dish and set aside. Scatter bread in a single layer on a rimmed baking sheet. Bake, stirring occasionally, until dried out, about 1 hour. Let cool, transfer to a large bowl.

Meanwhile, melt 3/4 cup butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat; add onions and celery. Stir often until just beginning to brown, about 10 minutes. Add to bowl with bread; stir in herbs, salt, and pepper. Drizzle in 1 1/4 cups broth and toss gently. Let cool.

Preheat oven to 350°F. Whisk 1 1/4 cups broth and eggs in a small bowl. Add to bread mixture; fold gently until thoroughly combined. Transfer to prepared dish, cover with foil, and bake until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the center of dressing registers 160°F, about 40 minutes. DO AHEAD: Dressing can be made 1 day ahead. Uncover; let cool. Cover; chill.

Bake dressing, uncovered, until set and top is browned and crisp, 40-45 minutes longer (if chilled, add 10-15 minutes).
