From Bach to the Beatles, Kairos presents The Killer B’s

Kairos: A Consort of Singers, under the direction of Dr. Edward Lundergan, presents a concert of music by “The Killer Bs” on Sunday, Mar. 24, at 3 p.m. The program will be performed in the intimate and acoustically superb chapel of the Holy Cross Monastery, 1615 Route 9W, West Park.

The program is an appealing mix of famous, popular, and less well-known works by A-list composers whose names begin with the letter B. The music is drawn from colonial America, from Renaissance and twentieth-century England, and from nineteenth-century Germany and Austria.

Composers on the program include Benjamin Britten, Johannes Brahms, and Anton Bruckner, with the English Renaissance represented by John Bennet and Thomas Bateson. In addition, Kairos will perform a work by the eminent early American tunesmith William Billings as well as movements from the Mass for Five Voices by a towering exponent of Renaissance England, William Byrd. As a special added treat, Kairos will offer a selection of Beatles tunes arranged for the pop/virtuoso ensemble The Swingle Singers.

Tickets to the concert are $20 for general admission, $15 for seniors, and $5 for students and youths. Tickets may be purchased online at the Kairos website.

Kairos suggests that audience members arrive at the venue at least 20 minutes before the performance to secure seating.

Kairos specializes in the unaccompanied choral literature from the medieval to the present day, and has performed, as well, with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, the Bach Festival Orchestra, the Esopus Chamber Orchestra, and the Hudson Valley Philharmonic String Quartet.
