Long before receiving their driver’s licenses, children got a chance to decorate a car at the Gardiner Library on Saturday. This was part of the library’s popular drive-in movie series of events.
Children brought a cardboard box big enough that they could sit in and decorate it like a car. With help from their parents, children used items such as paper plates and doilies to adorn their vehicles. Leslie Rule, a volunteer who supervised the event, noted that she loved the collaboration between the parents and their children.
“[I like] seeing the parents work with the kids,” she said.
The parents as well as their children also loved working together to decorate the cars.
“I think it’s a really cool event for the three of us,” said Kristen Roberts, who helped to decorate a car with her family.
After the box car making craft, the movie “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” was shown. This is one of a slew of G-rated films the program has shown during the three years it has been held.
The next kids’ drive-in movie will be held on Sunday, March 8 from 12:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. at the Gardiner Library. The box car making craft will begin at 12:30 p.m. and Disney’s “Cars” will be shown at 1 p.m.
The library will provide art supplies, popcorn and juice. Guests in attendance should bring their own cardboard boxes.
