Gas station knocked down

Dennis’ Service Center, located at 842 Broadway, has officially been demolished. All that remains behind the fence is the service canopy for gas pumps along with several other large pieces of equipment and debris. The once fenced, charred and burnt out eye-sore appears to be on its way towards development in the City of Newburgh.

The gas station and auto garage, the livelihood of Dennis Derry, a local mechanic from Newburgh had suffered a fire in December 2018 that led to the building being unusable. Derry would later pass in June 2019 and thus the building would remain awaiting much needed remediation.

Newburgh City Council had approved a site development agreement in July 2022 to Shaul and Eli Vaknin for the redevelopment of the site. The proposed concept for the site would be a two-story building that would feature retail and restaurant spaces on the first floor and office space on the second floor. The developer has also been asked to look at helping along with the development of the Quassaick Creek Greenway project, as the waterway runs adjacent to the site.
