This year’s village elections in Maybrook, Montgomery and Walden yielded no changes in the municipalities’ leadership.

Candidates were competing for two open two-year seats in the Maybrook village trustee election. Incumbents James Barnett and Kevin Greany earned close vote totals of 240 and 255. Challenger Joseph Byrne came up short, garnering 171 votes.

Barnett is excited to begin his next term.

“I am honored to receive the votes of the good people of this village and I will do my best to serve them in the next two years,” he said.

Longtime Maybrook Village Justice William Schimpf will keep his position. He received 254 votes while his opponent Charles Woznick earned 122. Schimpf’s term will last four years.

Incumbents Michael Hembury and Walter Lindner dominated the trustee election in the Village of Montgomery, earning 365 and 358 votes respectively. They will continue to serve on the village board for an additional four years. Challenger Don Berger fell short of attaining the trustee position, as he received 237 votes.

Berger was disappointed in the results of the election, however he noted that he will continue to advocate the needs of the citizens group Residents Protecting Montgomery (RPM).

“Moving forward I’m gonna stay with my position and RPM’s position with the warehouse issues,” he said. “It’s unfortunate that I lost. I think the Village of Montgomery’s in real danger and they don’t have the foresight to understand what is happening to the future of our village.”

As of Tuesday evening, the results for the Village of Walden election had been announced, however the vote counts had not been revealed. The village’s candidates for mayor, trustee and village justice ran uncontested. Deputy Mayor John Ramos will take over as mayor while Brian Sebring, Lynn Thompson and John Elliott will continue to serve as village trustees. Veteran judge Raynard Ozman will continue his position as village justice, a post he has held for more than 20 years.
