Lloyd Police Chief presents lifesaving awards

At the March 18th Lloyd Town Board meeting Police Chief James Janso presented Sergeant Phillip Roloson, Officer Darrell Day and Officer Michael Henry with Lifesaving Awards for coming to the aid of a senior who was choking.

Janso said on January 5 at 1:24 p.m. an elderly man, David Rosner of Mahwah, NJ, rushed into the station seeking assistance for his wife Jeanne Perras, who was outside in the car and was having difficulty breathing after swallowing a large pill that had become lodged in her throat. He said his wife had lost consciousness and the Heimlich maneuver proved unsuccessful in clearing the obstruction. She was moved to the ground and was found not to have a pulse. CPR and rescue breaths were performed and Jeanne regained a pulse accompanied by shallow, agonal breathing.

Upon arrival at the scene, Mobile Life suctioned Mrs. Perras’ airway and continued rescue breathing. She was transported to Vassar Hospital where she was immediately sedated and placed on a ventilator in an induced coma in the intensive care unit for the rest of the evening.

On January 6, the hospital staff lifted Mrs. Perras out of the induced coma and she was able to return home and has made a full recovery.

Chief Janso said his officers, “all showed poise under extreme duress and their combined efforts throughout the entire incident assisted in saving Ms. Perras’ life.”

Janso watched the department’s video of what took place in the parking lot directly in front of the station.

“It was graphic, it was professional and profound. These guys are amazing at what they did and I am honored tonight to present them with Lifesaving Awards. I am so proud of these officers,” he said.
