Marlborough hosts Easter drive-thru event

Posted

During the pandemic the Town of Marlborough has not let the little things slip away for the children. They gave out candy for Halloween, drove Santa around town to greet the kids in December and last Saturday, handed out Easter candy at the town park.

Members of the Town Board and the Highway, Fire and the Police Departments formed a ring around the perimeter of the pond as parents slowly made their way, taking frequent stops to receive holiday treats.

Highway Superintendent John Alonge said his department was bringing a little holiday cheer to the children despite the pandemic.

“We’re trying to bring the little things back to our town and give to the kids,” he said. “It’s a great idea that the town wanted to do this, so we’re always game to help out.”

Alonge thanked the Town board for not pushing these events to the back burner.

Marlborough Fire Chief Erick Masten said having drive-thru events is a nice thing for the kids, but in the future, “hopefully it won’t be that we’re doing it because of Covid and maybe some more in-person contact would be nice again.”

Supervisor Al Lanzetta said his secretary Tina Rosa and Councilman Scott Corcoran came up with the idea for the drive-thru, which the Town Board has fully supported. Lanzetta said Tina worked tirelessly behind the scenes, getting ready for the event and packaging up the candy for the kids.

“She is an integral part of Easter,” he said.

Lanzetta also thanked the community and all of the town agencies involved for making the drive thru Easter event a big success.

“It was an all around effort,” he said.
