Montgomery moves closer to town-wide ambulance district

The Montgomery Town Board moved closer to creating a town-wide ambulance district at their meeting on Dec. 17 when they approved funds to prepare a map, plan and report for a proposed town-wide ambulance district.

The town board voted 5-0 in favor of apportioning an amount not to exceed $10,000 for the specific purpose of preparing a map, plan and report with regard to establishing a town-wide ambulance district.

The map, plan and report includes a map of the ambulance district, which is coterminous with the Town of Montgomery. In addition, the document will include expenses and the effects of the ambulance district. The town board hired Farr Engineering to develop the map, plan and report. Montgomery Town Supervisor Brian Maher noted that the firm will complete the project by Jan. 7. At that time, he will have a better understanding of what is needed to create the ambulance district.

“I will be able to better articulate what that means when it’s in front of me…,” he said regarding the details of the map, plan and report. “It involves all of the information that you could think of under the sun that would go into the creation of an ambulance district prior to creating it.”

Stephanie Tunic, the attorney for the town, added that one of the main points of the map, plan and report is calculating the average cost of a single-family home in the ambulance district. The town has until March 1 to create the ambulance district so it will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2022.

Furthermore, the town board is in conversation with a company to purchase automated stretchers for the Town of Montgomery Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Maher is also working to get an ambulance donated to the town.
